My son is turning 13 in a couple of weeks. He had asked for a Nerf Wars party a few months ago so I began planning. His Birthday is at the end of May, so all the parks in town are always books for graduation parties. We decided to have his party early this year.

We booked a park a few weeks ago and started planning. We had big, fun plans! Well, Mother Nature had different plans this weekend. Party day came and it was a high of 55 degrees and rain. I was so disappointed! It was perfectly sunny until but the forecast said rain was to move in right at party time. It did not disappoint. 3pm rolled around and the cold rain started, right as scheduled.

Earlier that day, we decided to move the party to our home. Our home is small and I worried about having 10 preteen/teen boys in my home who are expecting a Nerf Wars Party. These boys were great and had a wonderful time!

There wasn’t a lot of decorating planned for this party because it was supposed to be at the park. A few Nerf colored plastic table clothes, plastic eating utensils, plates, and napkins! I decided we needed more decorations the morning of the party since it was going to be at home. The nearest party store is 50 miles – one way. That was out of the question.

Luckily, I found this free printable banner on Pinterest from Birthday Buzzin. I printed it out on cardstock that had on hand from a previous party. I used some balloons I had on hand. The table cloths came from Dollar Tree. I picked the plates and napkins up on clearance a long time ago from Target.

I used images I found on the internet to make invitations and the Nerf Wars Rules on Canva.

I had also printed a Welcome Sign that I taped to the front door from Birthday Buzzin, but I forget to get a picture. I was busy getting the house ready for a party.

We also printed off a few dart targets that we found on the internet so they could have targets to shoot! I forgot to get pictures of those!

We went simple with the cake this year. We made two ‘targets‘ out of cupcakes and the number 13. They were a hit! The boys loved them and it was super simple and fun! The cupcakes cost me less than $10!

I bought some nerf darts off Amazon! I got 300 darts for a great price! I know they are not nerf brand, but I always buy the off-brand and I have never been disappointed!

We went simple with the food. My son’s only request was nacho cheese. He loves that stuff. Since the original plan was to have this party at the park, I planned simple foods. Chili dogs, nacho chips, and tortilla chips. The boys loved it! It was a simple quick snack they could devour and get right back in the game! We had bottled water and Kool-aid Jammers to drink!

I didn’t get any pictures of the food! They boys dug in pretty quickly!

The party was a lot of fun! The boys were not ready to leave when their parents came to pick them up! They can’t wait for next year! I did not do anything fancy. Nor, did I spend a lot of money for a successful party! I spend under $50 for everything. The food was the most expensive part!

He is happier than he looks, I promise! He wanted to wait for his friends and didn’t want to sit for a photo!
